Inundated by Sex

March 29, 2009

I went grocery shopping this afternoon, and, as always, perused the latest magazines in the rack as I waited in line.  Now, I usually use this time to catch up on world events via the Weekly World News, but today I just seemed completely overwhelmed by the various sketchy magazines, displaying the “ideal” women in virtually no clothing.  Headlines like “7 Secrets to Better Sex” and “What to do on the first date to make him YOURS” were a dime a dozen, inviting me to open them up and take part in this legal pornography for the mind.  The common ad slogan “It’s okay to look” haunted my mind, and I couldn’t believe how this could be a normal part of society.  The words turn the women on, and the pictures turn the guys on.  It’s right there, plain as day.  How is this acceptable?  How is purchasing these magazines any different than lust and perversion, the very thing Scripture tells us to flee (literally “run from”)?
